Britney Brand and Paige Sheppard make bird houses.

Fun: Poppie Carboon builds a birdhouse while Greg McCoy watches on.

Greg McCoy helps Tara Conline complete her work.

Orrvale Primary School students created wooden bird houses from scratch with help from retired cabinet maker Greg McCoy last week.

Bunnings Warehouse also helped the school, providing wood for the classes.

Students from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 learned how to work with wood and build a bird house.

Mr McCoy, who has 16 years’ experience as cabinet maker teaching at Goulburn Ovens Institute of Tafe, said it was important to give children life skills as early as possible.

Mr McCoy has been helping the students with other projects through the year and enjoyed keeping busy and was happy to help out at his granddaughter’s school.
