We’ve raised the barn

An old barn has been given an artistic makeover thanks to Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE VCAL students.

The old barn at GOTAFE’s William Orr campus was built in the early 1900s and was turned into a gallery on Tuesday, showcasing a range of paintings, stencilling and street art.

GOTAFE’s Kacey Charles and Myah Mackenna were among the many VCAL students who helped give the barn a new lease of life.

The pair spent two weeks spray painting blue wrens, which are commonly seen around the campus.

‘‘We used stencils and we tried different colours to switch it up to see what looked better,’’ Ms Mackenna said.

Ms Charles said it was fun creating the birds and she was surprised to discover there was a barn at the campus.

‘‘(The barn) always just sat here, no-one took notice of it until this year when we got the opportunity to clean it up and make it into something,’’ she said.

GOTAFE VCAL teacher Luke Bromley said students involved in the artistic clean-up took part in a design program.

‘‘We decided that this old barn needed a bit of a clean-up; we’ve given it a clean-up and we’ve put some of the students’ work on display,’’ he said.

‘‘Initially we had the Academy of Sport, Health and Education students come out and clean the place and then we’ve come in and completed it, so they’ve painted the floor and they’ve contributed really well.’’
