Guthrie St Primary School’s 550 students joined with one million young Australians around the nation for the Count Us In song Shine Together on Friday.

They learned the song’s lyrics and got to know sign language in the past four weeks in the creative arts lesson for the event which saw them sing simultaneously with other schools’ students.

Creative arts teacher Michael Donovan said it was a celebration of music and bringing everyone together.

‘‘The Guthrie St School band worked hard to play their own version of the song on the day that was written and recorded by students,’’ he said.

‘‘The students from prep to Year 6 also learned how to play the song on instruments such as ukulele.’’
