he Verney Rd middle year cheerleading team is excited to compete in Melbourne.

Verney Rd cheerleading team members rehearse ahead of the Australian All star Cheer and Dance Championship to be held in Melbourne.

Who are they? Verney Rd School!

What do they want? To win the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation competition!

Verney Rd School’s own cheerleading team will head to Melbourne today to compete in the Australian All Star Cheer and Dance Championships.

‘‘We came second in September at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and this weekend we’re off to the Convention Centre, so it’s a bigger competition,’’ Verney Rd School teacher and cheerleading coach Kelli Dodman said.

The competition will have 10000 students come together to compete.

Ms Dodman said the Verney Rd cheerleading team would compete in the special needs section.

Since the state competition, Verney Rd cheerleaders have learned to perform their routine without teachers prompting them.

‘‘They’ve remembered all of the moves on their own and they have also had a look at the judges’ feedback and been able to improve the things that the judges have suggested, so they’re expecting to beat their own score this weekend,’’ she said.

Ms Dodman said the competition gave students a chance to show off the skills they had been learning all year.

While in Melbourne, the students will stay in the city and will compete on Saturday at lunchtime.

‘‘Everyone is really excited,’’ Ms Dodman said.
