New captains

March 01, 2018

Vice captain Marcus McCubbin, City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe, vice captain Zahra Al Hundawi and school captain Jye Lowden.

Verney Rd School captains were inducted at a school assembly on Tuesday morning.

Jye Lowden was introduced as this year’s school captain, with Zahra Al Hindawi and Marcus McCubbin announced to be working along side him as vice-captains.

After receiving their badges, the students gave individual speeches explaining to the school and their families what being a leader meant to them.

Senior years unit leader Janine Thorne said the captains were chosen after the school voted on which Year 12 students they thought would be best suited for the role.

‘‘Our school captains will model wearing their school uniform correctly, come to school every day, help meet and greet visitors to the school and be role models within our community,’’ she said.

‘‘They also hand out achievement awards at assemblies and gather each week to discuss things that are happening within the school.’’

School captain Jye thanked his family and friends for motivating him to apply for the role, saying he would do his best to lead the other students.

‘‘As school captain I will be safe, respectful, responsible and a good learner,’’ he said.
