Future ahead

Dookie Primary School principal Troy Woolley says the numbers are looking good for his small school.

At Dookie Primary School an opposite trend has developed, with student enrolments doubling in the past four years.

‘‘We have a number of small schools around us, but parents are bypassing them to come to us,’’ Dookie Primary School principal Troy Wooley said.

‘‘I think parents think they (the other schools) are too small to be desirable.’’

Mr Wooley said smaller schools were often ‘‘stepping stone schools’’ for many principals, which could create instability and a lack of confidence in the school.

‘‘It’s all about community perception,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s hard and takes years to build a reputation in which parents have confidence that a school is doing the best for their children.’’
