Elders sold on supporting Child Cancer Association

By Kimberley Price

ELDERS Residential Echuca will donate a contribution from each sale to the Childhood Cancer Association.

The association was established in 1982 and Elders in South Australia and NSW jumped on board to help the not-for-profit organisation raise much needed funds for supporting children with cancer and their families.

Now, the Victorian branch of Elders has joined the cause and the Echuca business is hoping they can do what they can to help.

‘‘Given one of our internal office core values is in line with being better people in our community we felt supporting something as important as the Child Cancer Association was truly living our core values and not just some writing on the wall,’’ Elders Residential Echuca director Dean Costello said.

‘‘This is something we’re really passionate about because we all know someone who’s been through cancer.

‘‘It’s a worthy cause and this is the least we can do to assist families exposed to something absolutely heart breaking.’’

Assistant property manager Phoebe Henson has thrown her support behind the fundraising and will soon travel to Melbourne to experience first-hand what Childhood Cancer provides.

The not-for-profit’s aim is to provide ongoing and practical hands on support for children with cancer and their families.

The association provides free accommodation for regional and interstate families, family support, bereavement support and programs and education for children and family.

The program also involves giving their mascot Elliot, a small fluffy dog, to every child involved in the organisation.

Childhood Cancer also encourages children and their families to write letters to Elliot and they have published Elliot’s tips for brothers and sisters to help siblings understand and cope with what is happening to their family.

Mr Costello hopes the fundraising Elders Residential Echuca can raise will go a long way to help kids in need.

‘‘We hope to be able to go one step further and do some charity fundraising during the year as well,’’ he said.
