Mooroopna kindergarten to undergo makeover

By Tara Whitsed

The landscaping at Mooroopna’s Save the Children kindergarten will undergo a huge makeover thanks to a local rugby club.

Shepparton Rugby Union Club Inc. spokesperson Mellisa Silaga said the club set out this year to make a difference in the community in a big way.

Recently taking on the Melbourne Chargers at a charity match in Shepparton, with the sponsorship of Cavalier Homes Goulburn Valley, the club raised almost $5000 for Save the Children in Mooroopna.

‘‘We are passionate about our rugby but we’re also more passionate about the youth and children in the community,’’ Ms Silaga said.

The day was full of games, smiles and laughter with several local businesses supporting the raffles.

‘‘Thanks to Solar Seafood, Hair Warehouse, Sportsmans Warehouse, local business owner Sele Tishcher and Super Rugby teams the Queensland Reds, who donated a officially signed 2018 Reds jersey, and Melbourne Rebels who donated an official signed Super Rugby ball.’’

Save the Children regional manager Andrew Holloway thanked the club for its support and said there would be many additions to the kindergarten’s landscaping.

Ms Silaga also thanked the Henderson family, which is based in Melbourne, with a son who plays local rugby. They donated $500, adding to the $4600 total.

‘‘We know this money will be put to good use and thank our community, especially our sponsors Cavalier Homes GV for making this possible. We can’t wait to do it again in 2019.’’
