Program a win-win for all

By Shepparton News

Years 5 and 6 students from Mooroopna Park Primary School visited Waratah Lodge in Mooroopna yesterday as part of the Greater Shepparton Community Leadership Program.

The Community Leadership Program aims to develop active and engaged community members within Greater Shepparton who wish to increase their leadership potential and influence within the community.

Mooroopna resident Robyn Duhring co-ordinated the Adopt-A-Grandparent project as part of the program, hoping to engage the children in volunteering and the field of aged care services.

The project included three visits to the facility across the past three Wednesdays.

The students enjoyed bingo with the residents on the first visit, followed by word searches on the second and general chat on the third visit.

Ms Duhring said the project had been wonderful, with the children and the residents responding well.

She said she was grateful for the support of Chris Crawford at Shepparton Villages, Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative for lending the bus for transporting the students, Greater Shepparton City Council and all involved in the leadership program.

Ms Duhring said the program had given her more confidence in herself and improved her public speaking skills.
