Nature in spotlight at Mooroopna workshop

By Shepparton News

Children will be equipped with the skills to look after the nature in their local area via an interactive event in Mooroopna tomorrow.

Ran as part of Activities in the Park, RiverConnect will host the Nurture Nature event, which will include live wildlife demonstrations from Bohollow Wildlife Shelter EnviroEd and the opportunity to learn about safe handling of various reptiles.

Children will learn through a series of fun and educational activities with an environmental focus and RiverConnect staff will also provide art activities to build an understanding of the local flora and fauna.

RiverConnect education officer Allison Trethowan said these were great activities to keep the kids entertained during the school holidays.

‘‘These are the types of activities which appeal to people of all ages, with something new to learn for everyone,’’ Ms Trethowan said.

‘‘Adults should not be deterred as this is a chance to have some kid-like fun and we encourage parents and guardians to learn alongside the children.’’

Participants are welcome to bring a picnic blanket and finish the morning with a relaxing early lunch in the shade of the peppercorn trees at SPC KidsTown.

Goulburn Valley Water will also be on site to cool attendees down with refreshments from its ‘‘Water Café’’ and will provide information and games about why you should choose tap water instead of sugary drinks.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and RiverConnect advises attendees should wear sun-smart clothing, sunscreen and hats, as well as ensuring you stay hydrated, particularly in the hot weather.

Nurture Nature will be held tomorrow, January 22, from 9.15am at SPC KidsTown’s Peppercorn Gardens, 7287 Midland Hwy, Mooroopna. The cost is the KidsTown entry of a gold coin donation.
