There were plenty of mixed emotions at Grahamvale Primary School yesterday morning, as Foundation students began their education journey.
It was a busy morning as the school welcomed 92 new students along with a number of parents and grandparents.
Making up five classes, the group is the largest cohort to begin in the school’s history.
It brings the school total to 405 students, also a historical record.
Grahamvale Primary School principal Simone Higgins said this was one of the most exciting days of the year and she looked forward to another big year for the fast-growing school.
‘‘It’s exciting welcoming all the new students and their families,’’ she said.
‘‘It can be very emotional for everyone.’’
As students settled into their classrooms, they played, enjoyed some colouring-in and chatted with other classmates.
Parents and grandparents were invited to enjoy some morning tea in the staffroom.
