Students bring Oliver to life on stage

Goulburn Valley Grammar School students will leave audiences asking for more this week, hitting the stage to perform Oliver!.

Based on the book Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, GVGS will perform the classic adaptation with favourite tunes such as Food, Glorious Food, Consider Yourself At Home and You’ve Got To Pick a Pocket Or Two.

Director Helen Janke said the cast featured 35 talented students with four main lead roles, an ensemble and cameo parts.

‘‘It’s been pretty big but we’re ready for an audience,’’ she said.

Students completed their final dress rehearsal this week with opening night this Thursday.

‘‘It’s always a really big step up from rehearsing in the hall at the school,’’ Ms Janke said.

‘‘Adjusting to the new set can be a challenge.’’

The production will also feature the musical talents of 13 staff and students in the orchestra pit.

Oliver will be played by talented Year 6 student Tom Cuccinotta.

Ms Janke said they were very lucky to be able to cast him in the role.

‘‘He’s been doing auditions for things like School of Rock so we’re so lucky to have him,’’ she said.

Youngster Farhan Islam has been cast as lead Bill Sikes, Jack Nevill as conniving career criminal Fagin and Nell Ryan as Nancy.

Oliver! will be performed at Riverlinks WestSide, Echuca Rd, Mooroopna from Thursday, May 23 to Friday, May 25 from 7.30pm each night.

Tickets cost $17.50 and can be booked through the Riverlinks website or its box office on 58329511.
